My list of things design

As designers, one of our motivations is stay up to date with what's new in the design world, so that we can improve our craft. 

But it seems like every day, there is a shiny new spot for design resources. It could be a new Tumblr, a new mailing list, a new Twitter account, Facebook page, you name it. How does one sift through it all? We can't read every new piece of design content, so we have to be selective. 

I try to curate my list of resources every so often. I subscribe to many things, but if the content is not great, I will unsubscribe. Below are my go-to places for timely and rich design content (in alphabetical order):


Alertbox: The latest articles about interface usability, website design, and UX research from the Nielsen Norman Group.

A List Apart: A List Apart explores the design, development, and meaning of web content, with a special focus on web standards and best practices.

Codrops: Codrops is a web design and development blog that publishes articles and tutorials about the latest web trends, techniques and new possibilities. Curated by titans Manoela Ilic and Sara Soueidan.

CSS Weekly: weekly e-mail roundup of css articles,  tutorials, experiments and tools curated by Zoran Jambor.

DesignKit: Design Kit is IDEO.org's platform to learn human-centered design, a creative approach to solving the world's most difficult problems.

Google Ventures Design: Lessons and insights from the design team at Google Ventures. They work with startups to improve their design practices.

HTML5 Weekly: A once–weekly HTML5 and Web Platform technology roundup.
CSS 3, Canvas, WebSockets, WebGL, Native Client, and more.

Inside Intercom: The blog from Intercom, a product that shows you who is using your product and makes it easy to personally communicate with them through behaviour-driven email and in-app messages.

Know How: The blog from Information Architects, a design firm that also builds its own tools

Little Big Details: Daily dose of design inspiration.

Land book: A gallery of landing pages.

Researchers.io: A mailing list for fresh UX & customer research links in your mailbox weekly.

Smashing Magazine: Smashing Magazine is an online magazine for professional Web designers and developers, with a focus on useful techniques, best practices and valuable resources.

Subtraction: Daily posts about design from Khoi Vinh.

Signal vs. Noise: The blog from the Basecamp, a project management product.

UserOnboard: Tear downs of user onboarding for some of the best apps and products on the web.

UX Thought of the Day: Daily tips about UI engineering by Jared Spool, founder of User Interface Engineering, the largest usability research organization of its kind in the world.

Web Design Weekly: A once a week email with no spam, no rambling. Just pure awesome links to the best news and articles to hit the interweb during the week.
